The War for Southern Independence

Dr. John Chandler Griffin Wednesday, February 1
7:00 PM
Iredell County
Public Library
Statesville, NC
Dr. John Chandler Griffin will discuss his new book The War for Southern Independence: The Sesquicentennial Edition at the library February 1 at 7:00 p.m. Griffin says “Without exaggeration, I believe this to be the most comprehensive book ever compiled on the Confederacy. It is 340 pages long with almost 500 photos, 90% of them Confederate photos, generals, officers, and privates. It's easy to find books on the Union Army, but there are only a few on the Confederacy. Nothing to compare to this one.”
Dr.
John Chandler Griffin recently retired as an English Professor
with the University of South Carolina. Upon his retirement the
Trustees of the University granted him the honorary title
Distinguished Professor Emeritus (for an outstanding academic
performance). Two years later the Governor of S. C. named his to
The Order of the Silver Cresceent, the state's highest award
(for service to his state and its citizens). He has now
published twenty works of non-fiction, plus one mystery novel.
His 2004 biography of Thomas Wolfe won the History Book of the
Year from the North Carolina Historical Society, and his 2005
biography of Jean Toomer won the Adele Mellen Award. He has now
published three biographies of Abraham Lincoln, the only author
ever to publish three biographies of Lincoln. He and his family
make their home in Lancaster, S. C.
