Statesville author Elizabeth A. Reber will speak at the Iredell County Public Library in Statesville on Wednesday, October 2 at 4:00 p.m. to introduce her latest work, Of Bayne’s Blood: New Eden’s Treasure, a fantasy adventure novel inspired by the tales of Peter Pan and Pirates of the Caribbean. The book tells the tale of seventeen year old Gwendolyn Dare who in December of 1776 embarked on a deadly mission. Vowing to free her cousin Peter Dare and the lost boys who were in the grip of Captain James Hook, she resorted to an unlikely source of help: pirates.
In the acknowledgements at the end of her book, Reber writes that the tale actually started as a fanzine story of Captain Jack Sparrow meeting Captain Hook. She continues: “As I changed the story and characters slightly, I found inspiration in a movie called Finding Neverland which also expressed the life and death themes using the Peter Pan tale. I became a supporter against human trafficking and slavery, so those themes became prevalent in this story.”
Elizabeth A. “Lisa” Reber is a wife and the mother of two children. She currently lives in Statesville, NC and works in the hospitality industry. She earned a Technical Associate’s Degree from Davidson Community College and a Bachelor’s Degree in English from Catawba College. She contributed prose and poetry to the literary magazines of both colleges.
