5. How can I volunteer at the library?

We love volunteers! The library has many different volunteer opportunities, from shelving returned books to assisting in the local history room to helping out with programs for children. 6. How do I sign up for a library card?

The Iredell County Public Library provides free library cards to any resident who lives in or pays taxes in Iredell County.

To sign up for an account with us, all you need to do is bring a photo ID and proof of current address (if it’s not already on your ID) to one of our three library locations. You can find the address and contact information for our branches here. You’ll also be asked to fill out a short form at the library to verify your contact information, which normally takes no more than a few minutes.

After our staff have finished reviewing your form and issue you your card, you will be able to begin checking out library books and using our online resources that same day.

7. Do you accept used book donations?

We do accept donations of items (excluding encyclopedias, textbooks, magazines, DVDs, and cassette tapes) in like-new condition. All hardcovers should include the dust jacket unless they were designed to be sold without one.

Donated items are occasionally added to the library collection, but most often are put into the book sales run by our Friends of the Library organizations to fund library programs.

We ask that you limit your donation to one or two boxes. You may bring them to the front desk at any of our 3 locations (Statesville, Harmony, Troutman) during regular operating hours (9am-6pm Monday-Saturday at Troutman and Harmony and 8am-8pm Monday-Thursday and 9am-6pm Friday and Saturday at Statesville).

8. What's the difference between a Libby card and a regular library card?

Our library offers two different borrowing options for patrons.

For the most access to our resources and services, we recommend signing up for a normal library card. A physical card grants access to our entire print and digital collections, ebooks and eaudio titles, as well as our online databases. You can sign up for a library card by bringing a photo ID to any of our three branches. The address and contact information for our branches can be found here.

For immediate and travel-free access, patrons can instead create an ebook-only account on our Libby website. Just go to the Iredell Libby homepage and click “I would like a card” on the right. This will allow anyone with a local phone number to get set up with Libby and immediately access thousands of ebooks and eaudio titles. Accounts created in this manner are not tied to a regular library card and will only work for Libby’s system. Once you’ve successfully created an account from the home page, you can download the Libby app to any of your devices and get reading.

9. How do I renew my library card?

If you call or visit any of our three branches during normal business hours, they’ll be able to pull up your account and renew you for another three years. All you’ll need to do is verify your contact information and notification preferences—it’s a very quick process.
